MARIA THERESA THALER SILVER COIN

The silver coin is named after Maria Theresa (1717 to 1780). She was a princess of the House of Habsburg and the Archduchess of Austria, Queen of Bohemia and Queen of Hungary. She was one of the most important and at the same time formative personalities of the Enlightenment Absolutism.

The inscription reads: M. THERESIA. D. G. R. IMP. HU. BO. REG. - ARCHID. AVST. DUX. BURG. CO. TYR. 1780. X and stands for Maria Theresa Dei Gratia Romanorum Imperatrix, Hungariae Bohemiaeque Regina, Archidux Austriae, Dux Burgundiae, Comes Tyrolis. 1780.

Translated, this means Maria Theresa, by the Grace of God Empress of the Romans, Queen of Hungary and Bohemia, Archduchess of Austria, Duchess of Burgundy, Countess of Tyrol.

The X is a St. Andrew's cross and was added after 1750 to indicate her rule over the Austrian Netherlands. The edge coinage reads "IUSTITIA ET CLEMENTIA" and stands for "justice and clemency".

The silver coin is 39.5 mm in diameter, it is 2.5 mm thick, and has a weight of 28.0668 grams. The fine silver weight is 23.389 grams, or approximately 0.75 ounces.

MARIA THERESIEN TALER SILBERMÜNZE

Namensgeber der Silbermünze ist Maria Theresia (1717 bis 1780). Sie war eine Fürstin aus dem Hause Habsburg und die Erzherzogin von Österreich, Königin von Böhmen und Königin von Ungarn. Sie war eine der wichtigsten und zugleich prägendsten Persönlichkeiten des Aufklärenden Absolutismus.

Die Inschrift lautet: M. THERESIA. D. G. R. IMP. HU. BO. REG. - ARCHID. AVST. DUX. BURG. CO. TYR. 1780. X und steht für Maria Theresia Dei Gratia Romanorum Imperatrix, Hungariae Bohemiaeque Regina, Archidux Austriae, Dux Burgundiae, Comes Tyrolis. 1780.

Übersetzt bedeutet das Maria Theresia, von Gottes Gnaden Kaiserin der Römer, Königin von Ungarn und Böhmen, Erzherzogin von Österreich, Herzogin von Burgund, Gräfin von Tirol.
